Being healthy resources us to move forward
Maturity means to be fully developed. Having three kids I know what it looks like to become mature. With each of my kids they have progressed from mom’s milk, to mushed up food that we had to feed to them. Then to them starting to feed themselves mushed up food and making a mess. To them eating solid food. Then to feeding themselves and knowing what is edible or something that will make them sick. They have matured in what they eat and have even moved to the point where they don’t need us to feed them. We have tried to teach them what is healthy and what is not. My two older ones even learned to feed their little brother! They have moved from immaturity to maturity.
For us to be healthy followers of Jesus there should be progression. We should move from milk to feeding ourselves and to feeding others. A true mark of a follower of Jesus is that we make disciples. That we are feeding someone else. For the average American Christian we are stuck somewhere around someone still feeding us mushed up food and drinking momma’s milk. It’s time to start moving from immaturity to maturity. It’s time to start feeding ourselves and the people around us. You don’t need to be coddled like a baby, do you?
Let’s just say you have done the minimum in following Jesus and you have heard 52 sermons from Godly, Bible teaching, Pastors who truly want you to grow in your faith. You should have enough on your plate to share with someone else. For most of you reading this it is time to step up. Let’s get in the game and be an active participant in God’s mission for His people.
11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. 12 You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.[c] You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13 For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong. -Hebrews 5:11-14
