Live like Jesus.
Jesus was obedient to his Father. Jesus was baptized by his cousin John. Baptism is a more than a symbol but less than magical. When Jesus was baptized it was to fulfill God’s plan for his life. He set the example for all those who would follow him.
Are you obediently following Jesus? Have you been baptized because you started following Jesus? If you have not, I want to challenge you to follow in the example of Jesus and be baptized. There is nothing magical about it. This is an act of obediently following Jesus. Baptism does not save you. It is a step in living like Jesus.
Jesus was baptized in a river. It doesn’t matter if you are baptized in Multimillion dollar church building or in a hot tub in your friends backyard. All that matters is you take the next step and after that you keep taking next steps as you follow Jesus. Just keep moving forward. This is obedience. This is following Jesus.
[I would love to celebrate with you in your next step. If you would like to be baptized let me know. I would love to baptize you or take a video and send it to me. Our community would love to celebrate with you!]
“I baptize with[d] water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.[e] 12 He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.”
13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?”
15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.[f]” So John agreed to baptize him.
16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened[g] and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” -Matthew 3:11-17
