The future will either guide you or distract you.

Momentum. You know what it looks like. When your favorite team is dominating the other team and there is nothing that can be done to stop them. But what does it look like for us to have momentum in our own lives? It means being fully engaged in the present. Forgetting the past and focusing all of your attention on the challenges of the moment. For some of us, it is hard to focus on what we have to do right now because we are too preoccupied with the future.

It’s fun for me to think of what the future might look like. I love to put a good plan together and execute it. But so many times, the plan I make for myself distracts me from having momentum, and never quite looks like what I thought it would look like. It’s easy to live in a dreamland of what could be, and totally miss the present.

Sure we need to plan and think through things. We should absolutely be wise with our resources. But if we insist on having every single detail planned out, we miss out on being engaged with what is happening in the right now.

If you think you are in control of your future you live in a dreamland. You are not in control, God is! And He will do a better job than you anyways. Release your plans to Him and live in the moment. What are you holding onto that you need to let go of? What plans do you need to release so you can be fully engaged in this moment? What is distracting you?
