How you think represents WHO you live for.
I don’t know about you, but I love guarantees. I love buying something that says “satisfaction guaranteed”. I love jobs with guaranteed pay. Why do I love guarantees so much? Because they give me a glimpse of the future. A guarantee takes away any doubts I might have and gives me confidence. With a guarantee, I can know exactly what will happen and not spend an ounce of my energy stressing about something not working. Without a guarantee, I tend to be more cautious, not taking risks for fear of what might happen.
Can you imagine a world where guarantees were present not only in products we buy or jobs we take, but in the day to day situations of life? A world where we had a guarantee that our kids would stay healthy and safe, our marriage would thrive, and our friends would always be there for us? It would be amazing, right? But we all know that a life of guarantees is unrealistic. But while we are thinking unrealistically, let’s go ahead and follow this thought to an extreme. How great would it be if life itself was guaranteed. Sort of an ultimate guarantee. A guarantee that covers everything – no matter what happens, no matter how big or small or great or horrible. A guarantee that even extends to death. Wouldn’t life be great with a guarantee like that? We would all live like we had nothing to lose!
As crazy as it sounds, the Bible actually gives us a guarantee just like this, and tells us how this guarantee should change the way we live.
So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need. Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. – Ephesians 4:25-30
Wow! If we follow Jesus and believe in Him alone as our savior, we are guaranteed of an eternity with God in heaven. And if we truly believe this, it will radically change our life. We will treat people differently. We won’t let little things get under skin or be angry. If we recognize that our life is guaranteed, we will love people and be generous. We will share our guarantee with others and encourage them to share in the same guaranteed life.
If you are a follower of Jesus, you live a guaranteed life, so live like it! If you don’t know Jesus as your savior, know that He died so you can have this guarantee. Get out your Bible and read about Him. Put your trust in Him, knowing your future is promised. Let’s live like we are guaranteed!
