How you love represents who you love.
It’s time to grow up! There comes to a point in all of our lives where we move from being a child to being an adult. Becoming mature is not an overnight thing, but there does come a point where we have to put aside the things we did when we were young. We are currently trying to get our two year old son to give up his pacifier. You would think we were asking him to give up his arm or leg. Man he loves that silly thing. Can you imagine a 30 year old man walking around with a pacifier in his mouth? Ridiculous, right? There has to be a time where he leaves behind his childish ways and moves on in life without his pacifier. It’s the same way with us as we follow Jesus. There are some things in our life we must let go of and move on without.
Following Jesus brings clarity to our lives as we strip off our old self and move into God’s plan for our lives. As our life changes we start to see more of who God is and how much He loves us. We have to come to a decision that the things we keep going back to from our old life need to be left behind. Sure there may be some areas you struggle with your whole life. But there comes a time when we need to grow up and get rid of the childish things of our past. We must replace our old life with faith, hope and love! We must move on from doubt, despair and hate. Otherwise we look ridiculous saying we are following Jesus when our lives look just like they did in the past. It makes no sense. We look like a 30 year old sucking on a pacifier!
When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:11-13
If you are following Jesus, you represent Him in all you do. What are some things in your life you need to put behind you?
