So you want to live right side up in this upside down world? Okay where do you start? You start by making an impact right where you live. In the sermon on the mount, Jesus starts out by telling people that if they want to follow Him, they need to be salt and light. Interesting, Jesus. I can’t physically be either of those things. What does this even mean? What He is saying is that if you follow Him, if you want to be right side up, then get ready to live your life in a way that impacts other people. To live right side up means to change your environment. Salt enhances the great flavors of food. It brings out the best of what is already there. Jesus wants you to bring the best out of the people you are around. Not only does He ask us to add to what is already there, He asks us to bring in the light. Light makes everything visible. Light guides us. Jesus wants us to encourage people and point them in the right direction. Who do you need to encourage and point in the right direction today? Who needs you to bring out the best in them? Who needs you to light up their life and reveal the truth of who Jesus is? If you are following Jesus and living right side up, you are going to make an impact.
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. – Matthew 5:13-16
