Most people would love to be famous, have a big platform, and have thousands of people giving them their money, time and attention. We love taking selfie and sharing them on social media. We can actually measure our greatness based on the number of likes and comments we get from our friends. In our culture today anyone can be famous, anyone can be heard, and anyone can make a global impact. We all have a choice to make. We can become greater or we can let our lives radiate Jesus.
In John chapter 3 a guy named John the Baptist had a choice to make. John was approached by his followers and they told him that a bunch of his followers were starting to follow Jesus. They said what should we do? John tells them Jesus must become greater and I must become less. John decided to make Jesus famous and for him to step into the background.
For me this passage has been a guiding light to me in just about every stage of my life. This has been an anchor holding me to the truth of who Jesus is to me. Everything I do I want to point to Jesus. I’m not perfect but I’m trying to let him increase and me decrease. I promise you this if you want to know what God’s plan for your life, then ask your self these questions. Is Jesus becoming greater through me? Am I willing to let Jesus become great at the expense of my greatness? What do I need to do to let Jesus use me to make Him greater?
30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. -John 3:30
