Have you ever found yourself saying that is too risky? Good I hope you have thought this before. Your human! Your normal! Calculating risk is something all of us need to be able to do. We all have a scale we have created for ourselves to evaluate the amount of risk that is involved in making a certain choice. You know the scale from jumping out of an airplane to stepping off the curb on the sidewalk. All of our scales are different. All of our scales change over the years. My daughter is 4 and I hope her scale changes soon. There is nothing this girl can not do. She believes she can do anything. She is fearless. I am not sure she ever thinks is this risky. She may not be human! There is something that happens in all of us that our scale between risky and routine slides closer to routine.
I was talking with a friend the other day who is working 12-15 hours a day at a job they don’t really like, for a group of people they don’t necessarily totally agree with but it pays really well and it is very stable. I just offhandedly said you should start your own business if you’re going to work that many hours. If your going to spend that much time away from your family you should do it working on something that matters to you. Their response was that is way too risky. It is so easy to get stuck in the routine of life and not be willing to step out of the normal everyday life to do something extraordinary. I don’t know about you but for me I would rather risk my life doing something that matters than risk giving my life away to something that does not matter.
What dream is lodged in your heart that you just can not push away with the routine of life? What breaks your heart? What gets you excited? What do you live for? To live the life God has for you there will be risk involved. What if God put a dream in your heart to see if you will trust him to see past the risk and have faith in him to provide? Do you live by faith or by your risk scale?
“For we live by believing and not by seeing.”- 2 Corinthians 5:7
