Whenever I exercise I always come to a point where I have to decide if I am going to keep pushing hard or I need to slow down. Fighting past that point usually has nothing to do with how hard I am breathing or how strong I am but it has everything to do with my mental toughness. To get stronger mentally helps you to fight past that little voice in your head that says, “stop, that is all you.” It is the same with fear. When we stand at the threshold of our fears and push through the door we are more willing to take a risk. It is so easy for us to miss out on an amazing opportunity because we are afraid of all of the things that could happen or afraid of not being able to predict the outcome. Fear is all in our head. Some of the most mental toughest guys on the planet are the US Navy Seals.
The Navy Seals train to develop mental toughness so that they can conquer any fear that comes their way. One of the ways they train for mental toughness is by facing their fear over and over again until it they get used to it. So if you are afraid of public speaking. In order for you to break that fear you have to step out of your comfort and get up to speak in front of people. Not just once but many times over a long period. That is how you break the fear of public speaking and it is the same way for any fears you may have in your life. But the hardest part of breaking free from fear is believing you can take the first step.
Belief is a powerful thing. Jesus told his disciples multiple times that if you just believe you can be a part of a story you could never write for yourself. If you believe you will be able to do things you never thought you could do. If you believe you can do what Jesus did and maybe even greater things than Jesus did on this earth. Belief is the first step of overcoming the fear threshold we have created for ourselves. What is God calling you to do that scares you? What is God asking you to do that is out of your comfort zone? Hear this take courage! Jesus is with you! You can do this! Take a step! Fear is all in your head. Don’t let it keep you from living your life to the fullest.
