Control is something most of us live with this illusion that we are fully in control. But if we really dig down dip inside out our thoughts and why we make certain choices we start to realize there are some things that can control us. The root of many of the choices we make is fear. When we are afraid of something we do whatever it takes to not feel the fear. So we avoid things because fear controls us. Some of this is a good thing.
Fear keeps us from doing stupid things. You know like things that will probably kill us. Fear also serves as a reminder to us of a previous experience that did not end up like we wanted. Like when you built up enough courage to take your bike off that ramp and ended up with a broken wrist. So now you might fear taking a jump like that one because you know what the result was before. So fear can easy start to control us. Fear can keep us from experiencing life to the fullest. Fear will keep you sitting on your couch at your house watching tv for 30 plus hours a week. But i believe God did not intend for us to governed by fear but by faith.
On March 15th, 2015 by friend who is a Pastor in Pakistan sends me an urgent message that there has been two church bombings in his city. He is terrified. Now in the back of every follower of Jesus in in that city they are thinking if I show up to gather with other believers is it worth losing my life. Fear can easily cripple us. Fear is the tool of evil in this world. For those of us who follow Jesus fear is not in control of our life.
If you are following Jesus then he is in control of your life. You have handed over the keys to your life and are submitting yourself to do what Jesus does. Is Jesus really in control of your life or are you allowing fear to drive your decisions. I know so many people who say they are following Jesus but live such absolutely safe lives that they are not willing to get out and actually do what Jesus did. Is this you? Today you have a chance to try something different. Instead of letting fear control your life ask yourself what does Jesus want me to do. Jesus what do you want me to do in this situation?
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first. – 1 John 4:18-19
