Community sets us up to thrive, not just survive.

Community is a give and take. For a community to thrive, everyone has to be willing to give what they have to the community. And not only give, but also to take when needs in your own life come up. I know for me it is so much harder to take than to give. When someone does something for me or unexpectedly gives me something, I have to fight the urge to not accept it. Everything in me says I can do this on my own. I don’t need someone helping me. I got this. My pride is the first thing that jumps in the way.

I’ve had a busy couple of weeks recently and haven’t been able to cut my grass. It was starting to look like a jungle. Every time a had a few hours to devote to yard work it would rain. Which made the grass grow even faster. We had our first celebration for Connect Movement on August 24th and the Saturday before I was running around getting last minute things taken care of and I had no idea how I was going to get it all done, including cutting my grass. After running some errands, I pull back up to my house and see that someone had cut my grass! My first initial thought was embarrassment. That someone felt like they needed to cut my grass but then instantly I changed my thoughts to realize someone did this because they love me. This person was giving what they had because they love me and care for me. I could do nothing but accept this act of love. I had to take from the community that I pour my life into.

There is no greater feeling than someone increasing your capacity and you being able to do the same for someone else. Community sets you up to thrive. I am so thankful for the amazing people in my community. You need this! You may need to be the one who starts it. Let us help you find life giving community in Jesus! You were not meant to just survive life, you were meant to thrive!
